Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Greater Jakarta Police Department Traffic Directorate will hold the fourth in a series of street races on H. Benjamin Sueb Street, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta on August 27-28, 2022.
“The Greater Jakarta Police Department will host the fourth round of ‘street racing’ in Kemayoran,” Greater Jakarta Police Department Commissioner General Traffic Director Latif Usman said on Monday.
Kemayoran was deemed suitable as the location for the race as the road infrastructure meets the race requirements and the area is spacious enough to accommodate both runners and spectators, he said.
The street racing event was held to commemorate Indonesia’s 77th Independence Day, he added.
The event will also provide a platform for racing fans to speak out and not get involved in illegal racing.
“Street racing activity is for all racing enthusiasts. Currently, the phenomenon (often handled) by Greater Jakarta Police Department is, of course, illegal racing, so we adapt to (such hobby for them to do) have a (means of indulging in running),” he said.
Twenty running clubs and communities registered for the event this weekend, he added.
In addition, the Greater Jakarta Police Department Traffic Directorate will also organize a large motorcycle exhibition, a boxing ring and a bazaar, as well as booster vaccination booths.
The fourth street racing event is a continuation of three similar events organized by the police in Ancol, North Jakarta, BSD, South Tangerang and Meikarta, Cikarang Bekasi, all of which have had some success in terms of implementation.
