TEHRAN – A rally competition for women from Muslim countries will be held this year in the city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, the CEO of the Iranian Motorcycle and Automobile Federation said on Sunday.
Iran has been chosen as the host country for the event, which is due to be held in September, Mehr said citing Mahmoud Seydanlou, president of the Iranian Motorcycle and Automobile Federation.
Negotiations with the president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) were successful and Tabriz was selected to host the competition due to its status as the Islamic capital of tourism in 2018, he added.
After years of hiatus, Iran will also host a rally round in the Middle East this year, Seydanlou added.
Iran will also host a series of motocross competitions approved by the Asian Automobile Federation, he added.
“Iran and a number of neighboring and Asian countries cannot participate in Formula 1 and Formula 2 auto races, which is why the Asian Automobile Federation gave each of these countries a chance, including the Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey, to host each round of these competitions at regional level, ”he added.
