After eight unpredictable rounds, has a small group of riders finally emerged as true contenders for the MotoGP 2020 title?
The top eight in the world championship were all covered by 25 points ahead of the recent Catalonia round.
But under the checkered flag in Barcelona, ââonly four remained within a race of the top.
Fabio Quartararo’s first victory since Jerez propels rider Petronas Yamaha to the top of the standings, while former leader Andrea Dovizioso drops to fourth place (-24 points) after being caught in the first round by Johann Zarco.
Between them are now Joan Mir of Suzuki (-8 points) and Maverick Vinales of Monster Yamaha (-18 points).
With Franco Morbidelli in fifth now 31 points off the top and openly doubting that a rider on a satellite (‘A-Spec’) motorcycle could fight for the crown, is MotoGP now ready for a championship shootout Quartararo-Mir-Vinales-Dovizioso or will any other twists mix the pack yet again?
Six rounds, starting from Le Mans this weekend, when the weather promises to be cold and rainy, will decide the outcome …
