The crash comes just a week after British Superbike rider Brad Jones crashed in the opening lap at the Brands Hatch circuit and was placed in a medically induced coma after sustaining injuries to his head, chest and to the legs.

In a statement issued following the announcement, the British Automobile Racing Club said: The volunteer marshal tragically lost his life and the remainder of the racing day was canceled.

“As with any major incident, BARC now works with the national governing body, Motorsport UK, and local police.

“On behalf of all those connected with BARC, we are devastated by the loss of one of the incredible members of the community of volunteer marshals who do so much to make the sport possible. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to family and friends of all involved.

“The event is scheduled to resume on Sunday.”
