Qatar’s season opening MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 Grands Prix take place today in Losail.
After 20 minute warm-ups for all three classes, starting at 2:40 p.m. local time, the Moto3 race will start at 5:00 p.m., followed by Moto2 at 6:20 p.m., with the MotoGP main event starting at 8:00 p.m. local. time.
The MotoGP front row will be made up of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) and Maverick Vinales (Yamaha) with Valentino Rossi, Petronas Yamaha’s best satellite rider leading the second row.
Alongside Rossi there will be Jack Miller (Ducati) and Johann Zarco (Pramac Ducati), with Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha), Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) and Alex Rins (Suzuki) forming the third row.
Reigning world champion Joan Mir (Suzuki) starts defending his title from tenth place, alongside Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda) and Pol Espargaro (Repsol Honda).
Most riders should choose softer tires for the race, but Rossi and Morbidelli took a long look at the hard rear in the final practice. Could they take a bet?
Tire wear should certainly be a big issue by the end of the race, with Aleix Espargaro predicting a 3 second drop in lap times, while the Ducatis’ record top speed means they will be one. force to be counted on straight lines.
MotoGP did not race in Qatar last season but will make up for lost time with two consecutive events in 2021, with the Doha round taking place next weekend.
