There are many great horse races across America today, including at Churchill Downs Racecourse. We been on fire with our picks for a long time now and after 3 winners in Saratoga on Friday we’re up +303.49 units with our race picks at our recommended stakes dated August 5, 2021. Let’s keep going!
Here are our best bets for today’s action at Churchill Downs.
1:53 p.m. ET Churchill Downs (Race 3) – Tepeu 5/2 (2-Star Game)
Tepeu placed 3 times on firm turf in early special weight races before moving to the main track by taking a 7 1/2 length 1/16th mile win at that track early last month . The well-placed race that day seemed fine after being driven with restraint in his 2 previous starts.
He remains open to improvement and plans to double his career total with Manny Franco in the saddle for the first time.
3:01 p.m. ET Churchill Downs (Race 5) – Family Way 3/1 (2-Star Game)
Mare Uncle Mo has been showing good form in Graded’s company lately, including scoring by 1 3/4 lengths in the one and a half mile Grade 3 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream Park in April.
She placed second in the next two starts, including the premier War Like Goddess class pursuit at Keeneland before a half-length loss in the Grade 1 New York Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Belmont Park. She can provide coach Brendan P Walsh with high-level success.
4:09 p.m. ET Churchill Downs (Race 7) – Sconsin Evens (3-star play)
Sconsin ended last year with a Listed victory in a stakes contest at this track and trip in September and kicked off his 2022 campaign perfectly by taking 3/4 success in the winning Year 3 colours.
She had Joyful Cadence, who opposes today, back in 2nd on this occasion while the daughter of Include had her main rival Bell’s The One back in 3rd when she finished second in Grade 3 Chicago on this track last time.
5:51 p.m. ET Churchill Downs (Race 10) – King Fury 2/1 (2-Star Game)
King Fury has been disappointing in his 2 most recent starts, but he had excuses at every opportunity, including finishing last year with a 5th in the Grade 1 Clark Stakes over a mile and 1/8th at this place in November.
He found the all-weather surface against him when he was on the court in the Kentucky Cup Listed Classic Stakes on his seasonal debut in April and the return to a traditional dirt surface may see him score for Coach Kenneth McPeek.
6:25 p.m. ET Churchill Downs (Race 11, Arlington Million) – Smooth Like Straight 5/2 (2-Star Game)
Smooth Like Strait has shown good form since scoring a length-and-a-half success in the freshman Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita in May last year. He has finished on the board in all 6 appearances since that top-level success, including when he finished second in the 2022 race of the same race.
The increase in distance is a problem after finishing second in a 2nd year at this distance last July. He’s set to deliver a high profile win with John Velazquez booked for the ride.
