MANOR (Austin Business Journal) – When the Manor Downs race track was at its peak, thousands of guests would fill the stands and the Lawn Club on race days, or head to the Oval Track for concerts, which drew in the likes of Willie Nelson, the Grateful Dead, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Cash.
But now, more than a decade after its last horse race, the since-closed track is heading into new life that’s emblematic of the Austin Metro’s rapid economic growth, as an industrial park that the developers hope to serve l one of the city’s next growth nodes. .
Dallas-based Dalfen Industrial LLC announced on September 22 that the company has acquired the 146-acre park, located on Hill Lane near Highways 130 and 290 and Manor High School, with the intention of transforming the land. into a huge industrial park comprising six buildings totaling over 1 million square feet of space.
The site acquisition was the product of more than a year of work, according to Tyler McElroy, the company’s director of development and construction, who said they were almost entirely drawn to the location. They hope to start construction next year and open by the third quarter of 2023.
