Third person dies following fatal drag racing event in Kerrville


A third person has died after a driver at a drag race in Kerrville lost control and crashed into a crowd of onlookers.

Two were killed in the October 23 crash at an event called Airport Race Wars 2 at the Kerrville-Kerr County Airport. The event involved drivers speeding down a track as they competed for money.

The Kerrville Police Department identified the third fatality as Converse’s Rebecca Cedillo, who died Oct. 27 from her injuries.

The following people injured in the crash have been released from medical facilities, Kerrville police said:

  • Taylor’s Chance Dean Jones, 26, was discharged from Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin
  • Mary Kate “Katie” Walls of Taylor, 27, discharged from San Antonio University Hospital
  • Michael Gonzales, 34, of Fort Worth, was discharged from San Antonio Medical Center in San Antonio

Jones and Walls will both recover at home and have a long way to go, according to the family.

This investigation is still active and ongoing, Kerrville Police say.
